Korea: Engineering the Spell

Korea: Engineering the Spell

project intent

K-culture first entered my professional life through copywriting projects about K-pop music and Korean games. I felt there was something different about this marketing language and aesthetics, but I couldn’t pinpoint it.

Then, in the summer of 2026, I went to Korea. On my last day, in Hongdae, among K-pop stores, with music blasting in my ears, something clicked in my writer mind. I could suddenly see such a complex operating machinery that I felt I knew nothing about marketing. What struck me most was that, although the neon ads, the merchandise, and the inherent consumer connections were perfectly visible, I could feel how all of this produced happiness.

I went home expecting the feeling to subside. Instead, the more I learned about K-culture and Hallyu, the more fascinating the system became, and the feeling remained.

I think Korea stayed with me because it made me happy.
