VIDEO DESCRIPTION:~

Dedicating to the commemoration and celebration of the 80th Liberation Day of South Korea.

This story is based on the personification of a 까치—a magpie (Korea’s national bird)—and its journey through those dark times, evolving into a post‑bird carrying messages of hope.

It’s a tale of how the tragedy of unsent letters finally reached its end, as freedom fighters sacrificed everything to bring colours back into a once‑colourless nation.

I have talked about the time during the colonial rule in 1919, right after it got independence in 1945 and also present-day Korea in 2025 and blended it uniquely in the form of a story.

I also created this animated illustration to introduce Korea’s symbols: the national bird (Magpie), national tree (the Korea Red Pine Tree), musical instrument (Gayageum), and monument (Gwanghwamun Gate)—each serving as a form of representation and celebration.

The video features many in‑depth pointers to help viewers observe the beauty of Korea better—like how flora and fauna were devastated during the hardship—now gradually restored.

Also, the signification of a cut-finger pointing out the fact that such things were considered 'common' or 'not that serious' because of the level of brutality that was happening in general on a daily basis.

This video also highlights the fact that despite it being a colourless time, the colour - red, was ironically everywhere (a blood-bath massacre).

This story also highlights a few of the many leaders as representations of Korea’s greater independence movement:

●Yun Gwan-sun, student activist whose courage at age 16 made her a powerful symbol of resistance.

●Ahn Chang‑ho, moral and philosophical leader known for inspiring educational and grassroots independence efforts.

●Maria Kim was a prominent Korean independence activist during the Japanese colonial rule. who was actively involved in the March 1 Independence Movement, leading the preamble and carrying secret documents of the Declaration of Independence.

●Yun Bong-gil, was Korean independence activist, known for his role in the Hongkou Park Incident in Shanghai in 1932, where he detonated a bomb during a Japanese celebration, killing several Japanese officials.

I created this animated video to bring together symbol and story—magpie, Korean National Symbols, nature- Flora & Fauna, nation, leaders, and art—to mark 80 years of liberation and honour those who gave their lives so colour could return to Korea.
