Freedom (자유)
I've been participating in this contest since 2016, I've always dreamt of going to South Korea; I really hope this year my dreams come true ❤️
It's a paper stop-motion movie commemorating the 80th liberation day, its main idea is to convey hope admist hardship; the story starts with a little girl and her brother amidst the chaos of war, suddenly a bright red balloon appears resembling a hint of hope in their gray world, soon the little girl innocent to the dangers around her, chases the balloon and the brother follows her fearing for her life; the ballon falls out of reach leading them to a hidden garden, it finally gets caught by the tree, but its not just a balloon; tied to its string is a small paper when opened it reveals a blossoming and beautiful Mugunghwa flower (Koreas national flower) and underneath it is a single hopeful word FREEDOM; the small flower represents a fragile but persistent spirit of the Korean people also as a symbol of hope, resilience and new beginnings, there no sound of war anymore but of a joyous rhyme like the blossoming of a free nation.
Soon the world brightens and everything gains color and birds start to sing, the boy tearful, hugs his little sister knowing that everything is going to be okay, the story ends with them looking at the balloon and following the hint of hope they once found and the promise of a peaceful future and a free nation.
I've spent weeks in my tiny room, drawing, coloring, cutting, making the characters move and then editing the video, it was a tedious process but totally worth it, thanks for watching.
